How do I pick the right size tree for my tree stand?
Each Christmas tree stands has an “UP TO” maximum tree height and butt diameter. Christmas trees are available in many different species and can vary greatly in trunk diameter, weight and overall width. Choose your tree based on these variables. For example, if you are choosing a tree that is excessively large in width or trunk diameter, you should consider a height less than maximum height recommendation of the tree stand. Also, make sure that the tree you are choosing is not so tall that it does not leave enough space for desired ornamentation.
When choosing a tree, how do I know it is fresh?
A fresh Christmas tree should have supple needles that bend but do not break when folded. Another test is to close your hand around a branch and gently pull towards you. A fresh cut tree will typically leave no more than 3-4 needles remaining in your hand.
What steps should I follow when preparing to install the tree in the Christmas tree stand?
Though not necessary with a freshly cut tree, it is always prudent to cut 2” off of the butt of the tree to remove a portion of the trunk that may have dried out. Cutting the end of the tree butt helps with water absorption. For the over achievers, Some tree growers suggest drilling small holes approximately 1/2”-3/4” deep around the exposed portion of the tree trunk to help with water absorption.
Cut off any branches that may come in contact the tree stand before installing in the stand. Otherwise, the branches will interfere with the tree stand and prevent proper installation and affect stability.
Follow the tree stand manufacturer’s instructions for proper installation.
Should I place something underneath the tree stand?
YES. You should always place a protective material underneath your tree stand to protect you floor from potential damage such as scratches or water spillage. There are various types of water retaining Christmas tree trays available, these are highly recommended. Be sure to acquire one that is adequately large to fit your tree stand. Trays also provide additional stability on soft flooring such as carpet.

How should I care for my tree?
Fresh cut Christmas trees should be kept away from heat sources and the tree stand should be kept full of water. You do not want the water to dry up or the tree sap will harden around the trunk and the Christmas tree will no longer be able to drink or absorb sufficient water. Christmas tree water additives are available. Some sources claim they are helpful while others state they are not. We do not support an opinion either way.
Check you water level twice/day for the first 4 days and once per day after that. Keep the water reservoir full.
My tree is leaning or doesn’t feel stable in the tree stand, what should I do?
A leaning tree is usually the result of the retaining bolts needing adjustment. While having someone hold the tree, back-off the bolts on the sides the tree is leaning away from. Be sure the tree is centered in the tree stand and then turn in the bolts on the side that the tree is leaning towards. Be sure that the bolts are turned in firmly and squarely against the tree butt. Trees that have a crooked trunk may take a bit more adjustment to achieve a straight look.
My tree isn't drinking, what should I do?
Some trees will drink a lot of water, while others may drink very little water. As long as the stand never went fully dry your tree should be okay.
If you forgot to water your tree and it dried up, you can shave around the butt of the tree with a utility knife or even use a drill bit to drill small holes about ½” deep around the exposed portion of the tree butt. This should help your tree resume absorbing water.
